EGC 2010 - Weekend Tournament: Finnish for Runaways
Finnish and English have nothing in common. This should bear in mind when trying to learn some Finnish words. So Kipiss has nothing to do with a key unique experience, but is just Prost . Also pupu is not the child's name (English) of feces, but describes a rabbit.
was particularly take note of the multilingual Go player in the Finnish Disco, who should at DJ Bobo properly abhottet and mitreisserisch on the dance floor screaming put your hands up in the air , carefully avoid what is said to continue in spirit ( and your feet too ), because then you can make yourself really angry Finns
;-) Otherwise, there is nothing special to report on the final tournament weekend, except that the Organizing team is working hard to maintain the standard upright. Wisely, I decided in time for the sidelines ... ;-)

EGC 2010 - d8: done first week!
The announced cooling of the weather-maker has been limited. Thus, all participants still had to sweat. By the way, Pair Go Champion Ilia were Shikshin (RU) and Laura Avram (RO), which could in their upcoming semi-final defeat by skillfully playing time turn into a victory. The final game was Saijo Masataka (9p) and Muraoka Shigeyuki (9p) is extremely entertaining comments.
Unfortunately, there is also a downer for this year's Saijo EGC will be his last. Reasons of age as he himself announced. So if you want to take this opportunity once again to experience live Saijo, should quickly make their way. His comments are legendary, and his lessons for DD Kyus at this year's EGC is attractive even for Dan Player (daily 13h-14: 30).
morning begins with a weekend tournament, the biggest tournament in Europe. I myself will use the time to kibitz a little - during the week rarely enough time for it, since you own after the game (about 4-5h) for the first lesson Saijo's rushes, and then to dinner rushes to it in time to Other events in the afternoon (Dan Player lesson, professional commentary and simultaneous games) create or at Rapid Go, 13x13, pair and team go tournament to take part. The EGC bedeuted time stress :-)

EGC 2010 - d7: Weekend Go-tourism
Once again, all participants had subtropical climate überstehen.Ob it to the Finns, adding more than the rest, is hard to say. At least today my opponent was less than impressed with my one. to play in the vestibule of hell was not to my taste anyway (sports hall with no air circulation with only one toilet for about 100 players).
came the afternoon, the first participants in the weekend tournament. So we are We were delighted to welcome Kalli and Andrew to take the preference with the tent. For tomorrow, rain is popular with pleasant 21 ° C! The lesson for Dan
player with Kozo Sensei (6p) was held in a fully crowded room instead of pure-sauna. We were late and could only marvel from the door frame, how many people have been following this lesson.
is the same time held the final of the top 8 teams in the Pair-Go Championship - with Lena Gauthier (1d) is still a Berlin woman in the quarter-finals left. About the outcome I would have to report later - we were there just to warm :-)
forgotten: Kalli and Andreas have designed high-flyer for this year's crane! One solution druff with ... a Super Move :-)

EGC 2010-Day 6: Free Game
As usual, the first Wednesday of the Congress play and can thus be used for exploring the local conditions. We got the day off well, as one of the many Zimtbiere we drank last night with our new Japanese friends, was apparently not quite fresh.
There was a boat trip on one of the two giant lakes, in which Tampere is just right. Perfect weather, fresh sea air and light meals were included. Unfortunately, we were - Chidori and Petr times other than - the youngest on board. Probably a consequence of the generally high cost of living in Finland, and the boat tour was not cheap. In the evening, Petr Baudis
(2k and life companion of Chidori) a lecture on new developments in the world Monte Carlo algorithm and Computer Go given for the best. Conclusion: 2d KGS!

EGC 2010 - Day 5: only 1 second!
PaarGo on the EGC has a long tradition. This year we are 56! Pairs to the first round of the European Championship. min at 40. Cooling to 4 stones reduced specification and Sudden Death, the Top 8 couples were looking to play on Thursday for the championship.
found this many illustrious couple, such as Pro-Amateur, siblings, mother-son combinations and couples.
Particularly impressive was a while a blind, Japanese players (3k), who had to feel for each train, as he visualized the whole lot in thought.
Tina and Lasse (our Finnish Friend) played an outstanding commitment to winning their first game by a brilliant Endspieltesuji against their much stronger opponents from Japan.
In their second game they could still keep their stronger opponent at bay for a long time, but lost on time - while their opponents still Clock 1s indicated.
The first round was still a success - even for Tina and Lasse. This most difficult form of Go will next year be a part of the Asian Games. A respectable result for the Go and the Pair Go Association.

EGC 2010 - Day 4: At last coffee!
Whether it was because of the many criticisms or was planned that way - yesterday was a small Behelfsbistro opened at the venue, so that one could obtain supplies of tea, coffee and other beverages. Another point of criticism by the EGF President Martin Stiassny addressed directly - advertised recommendations of inexpensive restaurants in the area. Let's see how the whole development.
Otherwise, everything went according to plan. Early in the morning, the daily lot, then professional lessons into the evening. Kim Sung Rae (8p) surprised with a lesson about counting of liberties. Who thought that was simply, was wrong.
evening Kozo Sensei played on the Sanshin , the forerunner of the shamisen, dance on ... Today it is a
long day - the PairGo preliminary round is eagerly awaited. Unfortunately, the German champion pair only half the ground. But I am glad that at least on a European stage nor the Olympic idea and hit counts Tina and Lasse (10k together) both thumbs.

EGC 2010 - Day 3: Let the games begin
After yesterday's highlight of the opening ceremony and tasting ended the approximately 500 participants, was asked early this Sunday for the first game. The season is graded according to skill level, Tina had 90 minutes, I have to think 2 hours. Unfortunately, we could win both our opening games, but there was this great comments from Kozo Hayashi San, a 6p from Japan (my opponent was Finally, one Japanese).
Unfortunately, there is something fundamental right to complain, because it has unfortunately forgotten that Go players want to drink and eat something. Not even tea - the main sponsor of tea producer - is available at the venue. At least I was advised that the tap water is very good ;-)
Well, David, Matze, Michael and Victor Lin (Austrian Champion) the good weather at 30 ° C for use picnic on the lawn. Chidori is back firmly on the draw and prepare yourself mentally PairGo forward to the tournament before Tuesday. Tina and Lasse - our Finnish friend from DGS - have been intensively trained yesterday ...
Right now is the first Round of the Rapid Go tournament - 30min Sudden Death. Not for us, but still it is enough to lapwings ;-)

EGC 2010 - Day 1: Arrival
, arriving by plane to Helsinki already offered in Tegel, the first pleasant surprise. We met in the terminal building Rüdiger Landgraf, who, having given his trust to another airline. Arrived in Helsinki, we jumped on our suitcases and despite the delay overland to Tampere still caught in time. After 2.5 hours finally arrived in Tampere, we met at the hotel already on the first competitors from Japan and Holland. Tampere is the third largest city in Finland and the venue of this year's European Championship.
Looking for a good dinner, we found ourselves once again in Harald , a Finnish specialty restaurant. Honey and Zimtbier, steak in red wine sauce and interesting tasting tar-ice (tastes like tar smell) inspired our palate. Then fell into the same bunk.
the way, the prices in Finland are considerably higher than ours - even in the supermarket to be reckoned with prices you'd expect from us usually only at the gas station.
