Jeffrey Archer is one of the very, very great storytellers and supplies for decades always sensational thriller. Also an interim stay in prison has been able to wear his class anything as " A Prisoner of Birth " proves - according to the solid but not sensational book " False Impression " was a world-class archer, who seamlessly in his series of great predecessors (such as "The Fourth Estate ) classifying.
Over the years, Jeffrey Archer has always once again published volumes of short stories, fun, easy easy Tales, the very in the tradition of his debut novel " It is not all that glitters is gold . I did many years ago the book "The perfect trick " fallen into the hands that I have read with great joy. After the not so good band "The Chinese Statue " I was now on "the fake king " panned, Archer's first short story collection after his prison stay. The bottom line is I was disappointed with the book, unfortunately. This is due to the style. Make way to make me the impression that Sir Jeffrey did not write, but can write - I have not just recognized. And that was not a result of the translation, as I, on reading of the original could find. The stories are simply written in a completely different tone. And the content? Sure, there are one or the other above-average story (such as "Charity begins at home"), but before and afterwards are just too many below-average ("It can not possibly be already October," or "A Greek Tragedy"), and the very large Blockbuster is missing entirely.
What I find the book most disturbing, is that Jeffrey Archer from the perspective of a prison chronologists writes that records the stories of his fellow prisoners. Is it the fact that connection to reality and the associated bitterness on the one or owed another point that the book lacks a little lightness? Ease has always been the great strength of Jeffrey Archer, and therefore it is all the more striking when one of his books is therefore a little effort.
Conclusion: Archer fans will also read "The fake king", but newcomers should prefer one of the older Kurzgschichtenbände or - access to one of the great novels Archers - even better.
